Contracts
A contract is the billing agreement for a customer — not necessarily a legal document in the app, but the rules you bill by: flat monthly fee, included hours, overtime rate, and so on.
Time entries, the work timer, and many invoices tie to a contract, not just a customer.
Add a contract
- Open Contracts in the menu.
- Tap to add a new contract.
- Choose the customer.
- Give the contract a name you will recognize (e.g. “Monthly retainer 2026” or “Website redesign”).
- Set important fields:
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Start date | When this agreement begins |
| End date | Optional — leave blank if ongoing |
| Monthly flat fee | Fixed amount you bill each period (can be zero if you bill hourly only) |
| Included hours (max) | Hours included in the retainer each month (or week — see period) |
| Hours period | Usually monthly — the cap resets each calendar month |
| Overtime hourly rate | What you charge per hour beyond the included cap |
| Billing day of month | Reminder for when you typically invoice (optional) |
| Active | Turn off when the project ends |
- Save.
Included hours and the dashboard
If you set an included hours cap, the home screen shows Used, Cap, and Left for that contract this month. That helps you see when you are approaching overtime before you send an invoice.
If you do not use hour caps (pure hourly or flat-fee-only), you can set included hours to zero.
One customer, several contracts
Example: a client has a monthly support retainer and a separate fixed-price install. Create two contracts under the same customer. When you start the timer or log time, pick the contract that matches the work you are doing.
Tips
- Name contracts clearly — the timer dropdown shows “Customer — Contract name”.
- Set inactive instead of deleting when a project ends; old time and invoices stay linked correctly.
- Match start date to when you actually began billing under those terms.
